The British Isles Experience

The British Isles and the Irish coast offer some of the most spectacular and magnificent scenery to be found anywhere in the world. Many seasoned Round the World sailor’s remark that the West Coast of Scotland in particular has both sailing and scenery unequalled anywhere.

Devon Sailing’s approach to the ‘British Isles Experience’ differs form other similar voyages in as much as we do not rush. The voyage starts from our home port of Dartmouth then works gently along the coast west towards the Isles of Scilly. After time to explore this unique group of Atlantic Islands we then head over to the South East coast of Ireland. One can expect music mixed with a liberal amount of the ‘Black Stuff’ whilst enjoying local hospitality. The Emerald Isle certainly is a jewel and will leave a sparkle in your eye.

Along the coast of Ireland we visit many lovely ports and, of course, Dublin’s fair city is a must. Leaving the Republic we stop over in Belfast before heading north to the sailors' paradise, Scotland. From here the choices are endless and our experienced skipper will advise you of the many beautiful and remote anchorages on offer then leave the decision to you, the crew.

One favourite is Loch Scavaig on the south coast of Skye, described in Almanacs as ‘the most spectacular anchorage in Europe’. The Outer Hebrides and hopefully St Kilda will be visited and explored before heading ‘over the top’ to the Orkney Islands, again plenty of time to explore and enjoy before heading south to Inverness.

A complete change of pace now as we enter the Great Glen and the Caledonian Canal, Locks and Lochs, peaceful waters, surrounded by Scots Pine trees and mountains that rise from the water. Fort William sees the end of the canal and then back out to sea to begin our journey home maybe re-visiting the favourites or deciding on new destinations.
